Marketing Glossary

Marketing and AI terms, explained simply, from AEO to VSL.

Marketing is full of acronyms and buzzwords, and the rise of AI has only added more. This glossary explains the terms you’ll see across our site and in the wider industry, in plain English.

AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)

AEO is the practice of structuring content so it can be directly understood and surfaced as an answer by AI-powered search tools and answer engines, rather than just ranked as a traditional search result. It focuses on clear, direct answers to specific questions.

AI Workflow

An AI workflow is a repeatable process that uses artificial intelligence tools to handle parts of a task automatically, such as generating content drafts, editing video, or managing routine marketing steps. Our Marketing Automation & AI Workflows service builds these kinds of workflows for clients.

Brand Identity

Brand identity is the collection of visual and verbal elements, like logo, colors, typography, and tone of voice, that make a brand recognizable and consistent across every touchpoint. It’s the foundation most other marketing and creative work builds on. See our Branding & Brand Identity service.

Content Creation

Content creation is the process of producing marketing material such as written copy, video, graphics, and social posts that communicate a brand’s message to its audience. Learn more about our Content Creation & Copywriting service.

Creative Strategy

Creative strategy is the planning work that determines what a brand should say, to whom, and through which formats and channels, before any content is actually produced. It connects business goals to the creative decisions made during production. See our Creative Strategy service.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

GEO is the practice of optimizing content so it’s more likely to be referenced or cited by generative AI tools, such as AI chat assistants, when they generate answers for users. It overlaps with AEO but focuses specifically on generative AI outputs rather than traditional answer boxes.

LLMO / AIO

LLMO (Large Language Model Optimization) and AIO (AI Optimization) refer to the broader practice of making a brand’s content and information easy for AI systems to find, understand, and represent accurately. This includes clear structure, factual accuracy, and consistent information across the web.

Marketing Automation

Marketing automation uses software and AI tools to handle repetitive marketing tasks, such as scheduling content, managing campaigns, or triggering follow-up actions, without manual effort each time. Our Marketing Automation & AI Workflows service covers this area.

Motion Graphics

Motion graphics are animated visual elements, such as animated logos, text, icons, or graphics, used to make video and digital content more engaging. They’re commonly used in ads, explainer videos, and social content. See our Motion Graphics & Animation service.

Performance Marketing

Performance marketing is an approach where marketing spend and creative decisions are directly tied to measurable outcomes, like clicks, leads, or sales, rather than general brand visibility alone. Our Performance Marketing Creatives service is built around this approach.

SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the practice of improving a website or piece of content so it ranks higher in traditional search engine results, helping more people find it organically. It typically involves keyword research, on-page optimization, and quality content.

Short-Form Video

Short-form video refers to brief video content, typically under a minute or two, designed for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. It’s built to capture attention quickly and perform well in fast-scrolling social feeds. See our UGC & Short-Form Video Content service.

Topical Authority

Topical authority is the degree to which a website or brand is seen, by both search engines and AI systems, as a trustworthy and comprehensive source of information on a specific subject. It’s typically built through consistent, in-depth content on related topics over time.

UGC (User-Generated Content)

UGC is content created in an authentic, creator-style format, often by real people or creators rather than a traditional studio production. It tends to feel native to social platforms and often performs well because it feels more trustworthy than polished advertising. See our UGC & Short-Form Video Content service.

VSL (Video Sales Letter)

A VSL is a video designed to walk a viewer through a persuasive sales pitch, typically covering a problem, a solution, and a call to action, in place of a written sales page. Our AI Video Production & Editing service can be used to produce videos like these.
